Onboarding to Dash Enterprise: Where Cutting-Edge Data Applications Meet Hospitality

So, you’ve heard about Plotly’s amazing features like App Studio, Dash Design Kit, and Snapshot Engine, and you’re ready to join the ranks of data analysts and data scientists who have taken the steps to modernize their data workflows with Dash Enterprise.

But what if you’ve never built a Dash app before? Or even thought about what is involved with deploying an app, or you have questions about authentication and data flows? 

That’s where the Plotly Onboarding Team steps in to help. In this blog post, I’m going to give you a peek into what it’s like working with the Customer Success Engineers on Plotly’s Onboarding Team.

How does the Onboarding Team support you?

Normally, when we think of onboarding to a new tool, we think of guided tour widgets on a platform or general instructions of how to use the product. While this sort of experience can be helpful, it can also leave us with a lot of questions when developing specific use cases particular to our needs.

At Plotly, onboarding begins with meeting your Customer Success Engineer who will be with you every step of the way as you develop your use case, learn best practices, and deploy high-value analytic data applications. As a member of the Plotly Onboarding Team, I can attest that we work hard to maintain sharp and effective technical and communication skills to best serve you. Let’s take a high-level look at the Dash Enterprise onboarding process.

Step 1: The welcome call

It all starts with a call to welcome you to Plotly where we will sit down together to meet, discuss the installation process of Dash Enterprise, and (most importantly) learn about you, your team, and what you’re wanting to accomplish with Dash Enterprise. We will ask you questions like:

  • How does your team like to work together and who are our best contacts?
  • How many apps are you planning to build?
  • What are your data sources and how often do they update?
  • Do you need a reporting workflow?
  • Do you have open source apps you want to migrate to Dash Enterprise?

We will use all of this information to put together a customized technical training plan oriented toward successful deployment of your use case. 

We also make sure you are prepared to work with our talented and professional Infrastructure Engineers for installing Dash Enterprise by discussing some primary considerations for the installation. After our Welcome Call, we will send along an installation form that will guide you through the necessary infrastructure needed for installation and allow our Infrastructure Engineers to create a customized installation plan for you. For more information about the installation prerequisites, you can visit our detailed documentation. After a successful installation, we will schedule your Orientation to Dash Enterprise.

Step 2: Technical orientation to Dash Enterprise

Let’s get to work! During the technical orientation to Dash Enterprise we will highlight the features of Dash Enterprise and discuss all of its features.

Remember: We’ve already had a preliminary conversation about your use case, so we make sure to highlight what is most relevant for your particular needs.

After this call, we will send you customized documentation based on your needs and questions, and work with you to schedule next steps in onboarding like technical training sessions and regular check-ins

Step 3: Check-ins and technical training

After our orientation call, we schedule bi-weekly check-in calls with your team to address any questions or concerns proactively. These check-in calls can be opportunities for us to discuss everything from connecting to your production data to troubleshooting app layouts or deployments.

We offer a wide range of technical training sessions that are designed to help you get the most out of Dash, Dash Enterprise, and your data. Some of our sessions include:

  • App Studio: Convert your Jupyter Notebook to a professional Dash application
  • Introduction to Dash: Walk through the basic architecture of a Dash application and a preliminary discussion on customized interactivity through Dash Callbacks
  • Visualizing with Plotly: Get a glimpse into the the wonderful world of interactive graphs and charts with Plotly Express and Plotly Graphing Library
  • Dash Enterprise Best Practices: Build your applications to perform in production environments 
  • Dash and AI: Discover how to build AI-enabled data applications
  • Enterprise package libraries: Learn how to effortlessly style your application with Dash Design Kit or add a reporting Workflow with Snapshot Engine
