Plotly Professional Services: 2026 Dash Apps and Lessons

A look back at what the Plotly Professional Services team shipped in 2026

As we head into the final stretch of 2026, I've been looking back at what our Professional Services team built this year. The best part of professional services is watching a Dash app go from a wireframe to something people rely on every day. Here’s a look at some of those apps, and what we learned along the way.

What we built

We shipped far more apps this year than we could fit in one post. Even these three cover a lot of ground: a self-serve analytics platform, a real-time monitoring dashboard, and a machine learning app.

Chart Editor

A self-serve analytics platform for an industrial manufacturer

Users load their own datasets, build visualizations, and share them with colleagues, so they can answer their own questions

Live Well Drilling Monitor

Real-time well monitoring for an oil and gas sensing company

Engineers track live fiber-optic acoustic (DAS) and temperature (DTS) data during injection operations, so they can act as conditions change

Image Segmentation

An interactive image segmentation app

Users label a few regions of a stained tissue image by hand, and a machine learning classifier segments the rest of the image pixel by pixel. They can then download the classified image or the trained model.

What we learned

  • AI is writing more Dash code. It's a great head start, but the code usually needs an expert review before it's ready for production.
  • Legacy dashboards hold teams back. Many teams want to move off old BI tools and Excel without starting from scratch.
  • The best projects build the team's skills too. Our favorite engagements end with the customer extending the app on their own and maintaining it autonomously.

From Figma to Dash: Transform Design Mockups into Production Apps

November 10, 11am EST

I'm especially excited about our next webinar. Athiru Pathiraja from my team will show how he uses Figma with AI agents, MCP servers, and skills to turn a mockup into a production-ready Dash app, without rebuilding it by hand. If you've ever watched a great design sit in Figma waiting to be built, this one's for you.
